Meet Bobbi Boyden, the 19-month-old toddler known as Baby Beyonce, who caused a furore this week when footage emerged of her performing a provocative dance routine at a child beauty pageant in Chelmsford, Essex. Some feat since she only learned to walk five months ago.
Video footage of the toddler has now been seen by thousands online, with her mother Stephanie coming under attack for allowing her daughter to behave in a sexualised manner at such a young age.
So what does Stephanie have to say for herself? I meet her at the home of a family friend. She greets me warmly as we wait for Bobbi to wake from her afternoon nap.
While the 32-year-old mother-of-six from Colchester, Essex, seems genuinely — if a little naively — shocked by the criticism, she is certainly making the most of her daughter’s moment in the sun. Little Bobbi has already bagged herself a showbiz agent, been the subject of several newspaper stories and has even appeared on daytime TV, dressed in a glittery red bodice and puffy skirt.
And whatever you might think of baby Bobbi’s outfits, there is little doubt when you meet her that this is a little girl who, quite simply, loves to dance. And Stephanie is happy to indulge her.
