Tymoshenko:'Ukraine and the world must act immediately' to stop Russian
in a statement that appeared on Yulia Tymoshenko’s personal website, the ex-Ukraine prime minister who was freed after nearly three years in prison on Feb. 22 said that “Ukraine and the world must act immediately and consistently to stop an unprecedented display of aggression by Russia and preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
Tymoshenko said that “Russia has just made another attempt to scare Ukraine with loud statements and decisions about the war.”
She stressed that Ukraine is a peaceful country, but said that if Ukraine accepts the ultimatum, the country may lose its sovereignty.
Tymoshenko said Russia wants to play the Abkhazia and South Ossetia scenario, which must be stopped.
Tymoshenko said there’s a plan which can follow to stabilize the situation. She calls on parliament to convene urgent meeting immediately.
“We need to make an appeal to the United Nations Security Council and to the European Union countries for holding urgent European Union Council of Ministers and the EU summit at the Livadia Palace in the Crimea.”
Tymoshenko is sure Ukraine’s parliament needs to urgently resume talks over an association agreement with the EU.
“We should appeal to the Western countries and demand them to fulfill the terms of the Budapest Memorandum, which guarantees Ukraine’s safety and non-invasion. We don’t need war, we need a strategy for deterring aggression, which will be applied by the democratic world,” according to the statement.
