The folk music of Nigeria has gained tremendous boost with indigenous fusion giving it a new dimension in the past few years. To serve our Fatherland
With love and strength and faith.

Shall never be in vain,
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.

 O God of creation
Direct our noble cause
Guide our leaders right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace
And justice shall reign.

A cure for skin cancer: Doctors announce historic breakthrough as 'spectacular' drugs brings hope

Each year almost 13,000 people in Britain are diagnosed with melanoma, including two people aged 15 to 34 every day

Scientists have developed breakthrough drugs that cure skin cancer.
The treatment is already having ‘spectacular’ effects in seriously ill melanoma patients – and could soon be used to defeat other types of cancer.
One scientist said it was ‘amazing’ that researchers could talk  of ‘using the C-word – cure’ for the first time, while another said trials among kidney and lung cancer patients are ‘very exciting’.

One in six patients ravaged by deadly skin cancer are already being cured by the drugs, the European Cancer Congress was told yesterday, with the possibility of more than half being saved with an new combination.
The astonishing development will save  the lives of thousands of patients with advanced melanoma, who usually die within months of being diagnosed. The new treatment, which will bring hope to  hundreds of thousands of people in Britain with terminal conditions, involves the combination of two  different types of drug that ‘reboot’ the immune system.
The first is ipilimumab – or ‘ipi’. According to research presented to the European congress in Amsterdam yesterday, 17 per cent of patients are cured by this drug alone.
But many more – perhaps more than half – could be ‘clinically cured’ by combining them with even newer drugs called anti-PD1s which break down cancer cells’ defences.

Nicki Minaj goes to Ellen DeGeneres show without BRA

Appropriate for daytime television? Rapper Nicki Minaj left chat show host Ellen DeGeneres shocked and excited with her daring ensemble

It is a chat loved by families across America, broadcasting around 5pm in the afternoon.
So perhaps Ellen DeGeneres was right to worryingly stare, when guest Nicki Minaj arrived for a chat without a bra in a revealing black jacket.
As Nicki took to the stage, it was clear that the star was not wearing a bra as her breasts were visible from underneath her jacket that just had one button fastened.

A stunned Ellen said: 'Well, that’s quite a jacket you got on there,' with Nicki replying, 'Don't start' trying to change the subject.
'What did you mean don’t start? How can I not start on that?  It’s very nice,' Ellen replied nervously.
Ellen added: 'Look, if you need to borrow a bra from me.  You just let me know.'

But Nicki snapped: 'I hate bras... Bras are like the devil...'
However, rather than offer her one, Ellen then got out some custom made thongs for the star, who did not seem impressed at the gesture.
Having both spent a year as a judge on American Idol, the pair appeared to both tow the line when the subject was brought up.

In on the joke? Nicki posted this revealing picture of herself shortly after her appearance on Ellen
Star-hips: Nicki looked incredible in her flesh-baring ensemble

Horrific images of drug-users eaten alive by flesh-eating illness caused by homemade heroin substitute that has arrived on American shores

Effects of Krokodil: This Russian man is suffering the side-effects of Krokodil use - Banner's Poison Control Center in Arizona says the two first cases of people using a drug that can rot flesh have been reported

The first cases of a terrifying new drug called 'Krokodil' that eats flesh from the inside out, is flammable and leaves addicts with reptilian-like skin have been reported this week in Arizona - and the state fears the beginning of an epidemic.
Popular in Russia, Krokodil is homemade, is three-times cheaper than heroin and created by mixing codeine with gasoline or oil, filtering it and then injecting the rancid concoction into the users body.
Banner's Poison Control Center most likely encountered the drug when two addicts arrived in emergency rooms with their flesh hanging off their body, exposing bone or with skin resembling that of a crocodile, hence its name.

Continual use of Krokodil causes blood vessels to burst, leaving skin green and scaly among addicts eventually causing gangrene and their flesh to begin to rot.
Rabid use in Russia has caused up to 2.5 million people to register and seek treatment as addicts and the average life span for a user is only two to three years.
'When drug users do it repeatedly, the skin sloughs. It causes hardening of their skin. It will cause necrosis,' explained LoVecchio.

Scales: The drug is called Krokodil because it leaves users with scaly skin akin to that of a crocodile
Reptilian Skin: This man's foot (left) shows symptoms of gangrene and scaliness associated with addiction to Krokodil and another individual's fingers are rotting away (both cases are from Russia)

Magazine To Pay Gov Adams Oshiomhole N25m Over A False Story They Wrote About Him

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole
A Benin High Court has awarded Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, N25million as damages in a libel suit he instituted against the publishers of News of the People, a soft sell weekly magazine.

Governor Oshiomhole had dragged the soft sell weekly magazine to court demanding N250million as damages over their report with the headline:
‘Oshiomhole’s sex power exposed: Impregnates young girl six months after death of wife.”

The magazine had written that Governor Oshiomhole impregnated a student of the state-owned
Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, bought the said girl a jeep and interfered in the academic activities of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, on behalf of the girl.
That Gov Oshiomole used sexual performance enhancement drugs and that he had performed traditional marriage rites precedent to marriage between him and the said girl.

The governor told the court that he demanded damages because the said  publication caused him and his children psychological trauma, six months after the death of his wife, as the libellous piece was widely circulated, to coincide with preparations for one of his daughter’s wedding.
He said:
“When I called a brother governor to sponsor my daughter’s wedding, the governor said he was confused, and asked me if I was the one doing the marriage or my daughter. He added that he was reading a magazine which said that I was about getting married to a university student, and that the said wife-to-be was already pregnant.”

In his judgment, the trial Judge, Justice Efe Ikponmwen, also ordered the magazine to publish a well-worded retraction and apology in a similarly conspicous manner in an edition of the magazine.

He held that the governor’s evidence proved that the magazine’s publication was libelous, and that even though the public has a right to know about a public officer, such information should be in line with the law and must not be in bad light.

DJ Switch wins Glo X Factor and goes home with 24million naira

The 29-year-old geology graduate of the University of Port Harcourt and native of Udi, Enugu State, was declared winner at the grand finale of the show held at Dream Studios, Bamako Street, Omole, Lagos. She beat the two other finalists Ethel Eshun and Vicky Gomoti in the last round of voting to win Globacom’s N24 million cash prize and a recording contract with Sony Music.
Before the announcement of the results, the expectation of audience, judges and contestants alike had built to a crescendo as everybody waited anxiously to find out who the first X Factor winner in Africa
would be.

The suspense was to last even longer as Glo ambassador from Ghana, Efya, came on stage for a wonderful performance that had the audience applauding rapturously. After her performance, X Factor host, Toolz, turned to the judges and sought to know how they felt about the night.

Reggie answered first, “I’m so excited that I brought my wife with me so we can both be excited together. It’s been a beautiful journey; I can’t wait to see who will walk away with the money.”

According to MI, “It’s been incredible. The crew, my fellow judges and the contestants have all been wonderful.”

Toolz asked Onyeka, “Who do you think will be the winner tonight?”
Onyeka answered with a smile, “I was so excited, I brought my Bible along with me. At this stage, I think the last three contestants have all won.”

Shortly afterwards, 2008 UK X Factor winner, delectable Alexandra Burke, got the hall on its feet with a resounding applause for a great performance of her hit track, Halleluyah. She was later joined on stage
by the three finalists, DJ Switch, Eshun and Vicky as they all spectacularly chorused the song together.

“Shake” and “Ada Ada” crooner, Flavour, came onstage next to thrill guests with a scintillating performance. He proved why he was a crowd favourite as the audience rose to their feet to dance along with him. After Flavour’s performance, the contestants came out to sing the songs they sang at the audition stage.

Vicky led the performances, and she got a standing ovation from the three judges. “How did your daughter perform?” Toolz inquired of Onyeka. “She has grown from a pupa to a butterfly. She sang with confidence and inner joy. I had goose pimples just listening to her. I have no doubt that she’ll make it. May God bless you.”

Reggie added, “You just proved to us that our work has not been in vain,” while MI said, “Wow, Vicky is just so amazing. You are absolutely stunning. The way you’re radiating joy; don’t keep it to yourself, please, share it with the world.”

DJ Switch came up next, garbed in a tight black trouser with black top to match. Her entry engendered a boisterous response from the crowd with her performance of Jay Z’s “Forever Young,” which was heavily
spiced up with raps. In a mild drama, the contestant switched over backwards, precariously clutching the mic as she raps. Her stagecraft even drew a wider applause when she stepped down the stage to hug hermother, while still singing without losing concentration.

Reacting to her performance, MI said, “Switch, people scream when you perform because you inspire us all. When you came for the audition, I felt you tried. I had already made up my mind that you wouldn’t make
it to my final three mentees, but you changed my mind. Everybody here needs to know that no matter what people say about you, it doesn’t matter as long as you fight.” he concluded. Reggie gushed, “DJSwitch, you are inspirational; you excite me. My children love you; everybody loves you!” As for Onyeka, she opined, “Unlike the other judges, the moment you stepped on stage, I knew you had it.”

When asked why she should win the X Factor, Switch simply said: “I work hard; I pray hard.”

Eshun was the next to perform, and she pulled out all the stops as she shimmered in her green attire. “One of the best things on this program is that I got to mentor Vicky and Eshun. She is exquisite, beautiful, gorgeous and talented. She walks onto the stage and lights it up. You have something that is very special. No matter what happens here, youhave me permanently in your camp. You will take the world by storm!” Onyeka declared.

MI said, “You are a perfect example of what this show is all about. You epitomises everything X Factor stands for. You’ve been one of my favourites.” Her Ghanaian compatriot, Reggie, said, “My story with my sister is different. We come from the same place and people expect me to give her a pass. It often seems as if I’m tough on you, but look at where you stand now. You have done well!”

On why she thinks she should win the competition, Eshun said, “The potter in the Bible goes around looking for clay to mold them into the type of pots that he wants. X Factor came looking for me; found me and I am glad. These past weeks, I have gone through moulding, and now, I’m ready.”

Then the climax! The contestants held hands together as they anticipated the results that would change the lives of one of them forever.

As Toolz invited the representative from Alexandra Forbes to the stage, she lingered a bit, teasing the audience as she twirled the green envelope containing the results in her hands.

“The first winner of the Glo X Factor West Africa is DJ Switch!” she announced as the crowd erupted in jubilation.

“How do you feel?” Toolz asked Eshum. She answered, “Fortunately, the Lord did what He wanted to do, and I’m happy for that.”

Vicky said, “I want to thank Glo for this platform, and I think DJ Switch deserved to win.”

Thereafter, DJ Switch performed her single, “Safe Landing” which is billed for release next week.

The first runner-up was Eshun and she got the sum of N1m for her efforts, while Vicky, the second runner-up, also got N1m.

Local TV stations reported that the gunmen took hostages as soldiers and local policemen surrounded the mall. Another survivor said he was shot at by a man who looked like a Somali.

The Somali militant group al Shabaab had previously threatened to attack hotels, nightclubs and the Westgate mall, which is one of the biggest malls in the city, popular with the city's expatriate and foreigners...but there's no official confirmation for now that the group is behind this attack.

Security guards were seen wheeling out bloodstained bodies in shopping trolleys as soldiers continue to comb the mall looking for the gunmen. Kenyan Red Cross said at least 20 have been killed and more casualties were still inside the complex. See photos after the cut.....

Army: Soldiers were drafted in to help police tackle the gunmen, who are now known to be terrorists from the Somali al-Shabaab organisation, which has links to al-Qaeda
