Blake Lively's Peachy "Late Show" Pre-Taping Session

Blake Lively's Peachy "Late Show" Pre-Taping Session

Making sure to get in some time in acknowledgement of her many fans, Blake Lively was spotted outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Tuesday afternoon (June 26).
The “Gossip Girl” beauty looked perfect in a peach knee-length dress and silver heels as she was seen signing autographs and posing for pictures before heading inside to pre-tape an appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” - which will be airing this Thursday, June 28th.
The talk show stop comes as Miss Lively is promoting her upcoming flick, “Savages”, of which she recently opened up to Yahoo News about her latest, not so Upper East Side role.
In the Oliver Stone directed movie, Blake is kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel and suffers a good deal of abuse from them - which she says were some of the most “difficult” times in shooting.
The 24-year-old explained, “You find yourself pushing to the maximum and trying to see how far you can go with the emotions and the tension. When Benicio is trying to intimidate me, I'm spitting back in his face. And he's looking really vicious the whole time so you're locking yourself into that world for those scenes and that's where the adrenaline kicks in.”
If you want to check out all of the thrilling moments of the film for yourself, you can catch “Savages” when it hits theaters on July 6th!

Sterling Bank sacks 400 workers

Sterling Bank sacks 400 workers

STERLING Bank Plc has sacked 400 workers in a systematic mass retrenchment aimed at reducing overhead cost.
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, investigation showed that 97 per cent of the retrenched workers were former staff of Equatorial Trust Bank Ltd. acquired by Sterling.
A source close to the bank said that the mass sack, which started about three weeks ago would also affect another 150 workers because of the consolidation of the two banks.
He said that workers were thrown into the nation’s saturated labour market with only three months’ salary as severance package.
An Executive Management staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity  said that the retrenchment was their best option toward sustainable growth and return to profitability.
He said that the workers were only victims of the economy, adding that they had to relieve them of their jobs to grow the bank.
NAN recalls that Mr Yemi Adeola, the Managing Director of Sterling Bank had at a recent annual general meeting, said that the business combination with former ETB had improved its scale and size.
Adeola said that the combination allowed the bank to leverage on the unique strengths of both banks to consolidate on overall market position.
According to him, 2012 would be another challenging operating year following current difficult global and local macro economic conditions.
“We see clear opportunities for reducing the bank’s cost-to-income ratio and increase revenues as the improved economic of scale arising from the business combination with ETB kick in,’’ Adeola said.
Meanwhile, Sterling Bank before the business combination grew its gross earnings by 49 per cent to N45.2 billion in 2011 compared with N30.4 billion in 2010.
The operating income in the period under review increased by 32 per cent to N27 billion from N20.4 billion in 2010.
Profit after tax increased by 11 per cent to N4.6 billion as against N4.2 billion in 2010

Court restrains FG from renaming unilag

Court restrains FG from renaming unilag

A federal high court in Lagos today granted an interim order restraining the Fed Govt. from renaming the University of Lagos.
Justice Stephen Adah, who granted the order, was ruling in the suits brought against the May 29, 2012 renaming of the institution by the students and alumni of the institution.
The court however advised the litigants to harmonize the suits into one and adjourned further  hearing till July 4

The defendants in the suits are UNILAG, the UNILAG Governing Council, the UNILAG Senate, the Attorney-General of the Federation and the National Assembly.
President Goodluck Jonathan had last month renamed the University of Lagos after the late businessman and acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola.
The renaming of the institution as Moshood Abiola University was greeted by protest from the students and staff of the school. they insisted that the president should have consulted with the National Assembly before making the pronunciation on democracy.
President Jonathan on Sunday during a presidential media chat with selected journalist said that he didnot breach the constitution  of Nigeria in renaming the university of Lagos. he said the renaming ia similar to the process the president can declare state of emergency before subjecting the matter before the national assembly.

Okadigbo’s wife accuses Anambra police of harassment…sues IGP

Okadigbo’s wife accuses Anambra police of harassment…sues IGP

WIFE of late former Senate President, Dr Chuba Okadigbo, Mrs Margery Okadigbo, said weekend that she decided to sue the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar to court for incessant harassment by the police.
In the suit, Okadigbo is praying the court for the enforcement of her fundamental human rights, lamenting that for some time, the police had been inviting her to the Anambra State police headquarters over an allegation of forgery when she did not commit any offence.
Joined in the suit are the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone 9-Umuahia, Mr. Solomon Olusegun and the Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ballah Nassarawa.
Okadigbo, who is claiming to be the rightful candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Anambra North senatorial zone in the April 2011 election, is contesting the seat with two other persons, Prince John Emeka; a former transport minister and Senator Alphonsus Igbeke, who was the immediate past senator that represented the zone.
The case to determine who was the validly nominated candidate of PDP in the election had gone up to the Supreme Court, which had fixed July 6, 2012 for judgment on the matter.
According to Okadigbo, the police had consistently been inviting her to report at the station over allegation of forgery of some documents pertaining to the senatorial election.
She said while she was busy making preparations for her father’s burial, she was again invited by the police, noting that she became apprehensive when the police declined to intimate her on why they were desperately looking for her.
She accused the Anambra State police command of allegedly harassing her, using the name of the Inspector General of Police and wondered why the same police that assigned some of its officers to protect her when she reported a case of threat to her life by some unknown persons, should turn around to say they were looking for her for alleged forgery.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, who did not give details concerning the court action by Okadigbo, explained that the matter was already being addressed by the state commissioner of police through the legal department of the command.

Why I traveled to Brazil — Jonathan

Why I traveled to Brazil — Jonathan
Responding to public criticism on his travel to Brazil despite the troubles in Kaduna and Yobe, he said the government would not allow the threats from the Islamic militant group to cripple the machinery of government.
“It would have sent a negative signal to the international community, and the Boko Haram sect would have been seen to have achieved their aim of strangulating the government.
“The aim of terrorists all over the world is to strangulate government and ensure that government does not function. If they know I did not travel because of their activities, they would rejoice. If I do not travel because of Boko Haram activities, why should foreigners want to travel to Nigeria? My inability to travel would send a negative signal to the international community,” he added.
He thus vowed that the activities of the sect would not stop government functionaries from moving around or from doing their work, adding that it is committed to ensuring that all the arms of government keep faith with their various international commitments.
“Boko Haram can not bring us to our knees, this government must keep faith with our international business allies, notwithstanding the threat of the sect. We must do all in our powers to stop them and we must stop them.”
Boko Haram aiming to destabilize my government
Jonathan further stated that the aim of the Boko Haram sect is to destabilize the government, saying that the various attacks on churches are aimed at instigating religious violence.
He also alleged that if Christians do not retaliate, the sect would adopt a change of strategy by attacking mosques, in a bid to achieve their aim. However, he promised that his government will surely bring the Boko Haram menace to an end.
“Boko Haram aims to destabilize the government. By attacking the churches, they hope that Christians will retaliate against the Muslims.  If the Christians fail to retaliate, the same sect will start attacking mosques, hoping the Muslims will attack the Christians.”
He said that the government is ready to dialogue with the sect, but that the only problem was that the sect is faceless  and the government cannot dialogue with a faceless body or group.
Asset Declaration
For the first time the President responded to critics on his failure to publicly declare his assets as he did when he was Vice-President.  He explained that while he was Vice-President he disagreed with former President Yar‘adua on the principle of public declaration of assets saying that it was an unnecessary step. Describing it as an anomalous action, Jonathan said that he told the late President that they should not start something that they could not control saying that they could not as well compel all other senior officials of government to follow their action.
He, however, confessed that he had to declare his assets publicly then because he was under President Yar‘adua, but affirmed that no one can now compel or intimidate him to do so, saying that would not “improve the economy, would not stop the Boko Haram menace and would not advance governance in any way.”
“When I was Vice President, I declared my assets, because the President then did. In any case, between the time when I was Vice President and President was just a few months, so what would I have acquired within that short time?”
He however, stated that he has nothing to hide and could even decide to declare tomorrow, if he so wishes.
Speaking on the fight against corruption, he defended the government’s decision to sack the former boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, saying: “When I give people work and assignment, I give them time and the latitude to do the job. It is when they are not performing that I take action. Everybody likes the new boss, Lamorde, people like his mode of operation and I do too.”
He, however, noted the procedural difficulties in bringing corrupt persons to book. “To arrange a case file to prosecute corrupt criminals is difficult and it would be wrong to convict an innocent person. It is better for nine criminals to go scot-free than to convict one innocent person.”
He urged the public to allow both Lamorde and the Acting Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC to do their job.

Why I sacked Azazi – Jonathan

Why I sacked Azazi – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, evening stated the reason for the sack of his erstwhile National Security Adviser, Gen. Andrew Azazi, saying it was to conform with the changing tactics of the Boko Haram insurgency.
He also vowed that the Islamist sect would not bring his government to its knees as he pledged last night to change the face and structure of the administration to combat what he described as the varying strategies of the insurgent group.
Speaking during a presidential media chat, President Jonathan gave reasons why he removed Gen. Andrew Azazi as the National Security Adviser, NSA; why he traveled to Brazil last Tuesday despite the carnage in Kaduna and Yobe states and the administration’s response to the recent scandal involving the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on fuel subsidy management.
For the first time President Jonathan also opened the lid on the differences between him and former President Umaru Yar‘adua on the public declaration of assets, noting that no one can blackmail him to now disclose his assets just as he affirmed that he would not dabble into speculations of his ambition concerning the 2015 presidential election. He, nevertheless, revealed that he would not reveal his plans until next year.

Giving reasons for the recent sack of Azazi as NSA and Dr. Haliru Bello as Minister of Defence, he said that the security challenges faced by the administration has overtime evolved through various stages and forms necessitating changes in the administration to combat the growing insurgency.
Jonathan said his decision to change his National Security Adviser is to conform with the changing tactics of the Boko Haram sect.

Rihanna Closes Out BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend

Following a surprise appearance alongside Jay-Z the previous night, Rihanna had the stage all to herself while closing out the 2012 BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend in London on Sunday (June 24).
With around 100,000 screaming fans packing the Hackney Marshes venue, the Barbadian beauty strutted into the spotlight while clad in a leather jacket with gold embellishments before stripping down to a tiger print t-shirt and black hotpants after finishing up her opening song, "Only Girl In The World".
Keeping a high energy atmosphere throughout, RiRi proceeded to crank out hit after hit including a lineup consisting of "Rude Boy", "S&M", "Hard" and "Don't Stop the Music" - while at one point telling the throng of spectators, "Hackney, you're crazier than they told me!"
Nearing the end of the UK concert, the 24-year-old eased into her hit collaboration "Run This Town" (which she performed with Jay Z during his Saturday set) and, low and behold, HOVA returned the favor as he walked alongside Rihanna - then staying alongside to help out with renditions of "Talk That Talk" and "Umbrella" before making his exit so that Rihanna could close things out with her chart-topping single "We Found Love".

Rev Chris Okotie and wife Stephanie Henshaw end marriage

Rev Chris Okotie and wife Stephanie Henshaw end marriage

Funky Pastor and head of Household of God Church, Lagos, Rev. Chris Okotie has announced his marriage break-up.
The glamorous marriage between Kris Okotie and his beautiful wife, Stephanie, has crashed less than four years after their big wedding, the funky preacher announced today.
In a dramatic announcement after a moving ministration, the controversial pastor of the Household of God Church and three-time presidential candidate, told his church their differences were irreconcilable and the couple had divorced.
“Stephanie and I are no longer married. We have separated. You can see she’s not in church today. It’s due to irreconcilable differences and you should please respect our wishes at this time because there is no going back.” With this terse statement Okotie announced the break up the marriage.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the congregation couldn’t believe the shocking news they had just heard from the charismatic former pop star turned cleric and politician.
Okotie reportedly made the announcement which invariably spoilt the day for most of the worshippers who had earlier had a very memorable brethren’s’ birthday celebration characterised by soul lifting songs, dancing, prayers, ministration and cutting of the cake.
While Okotie is divorcing for the second time, Stephanie has now been married three times and has three children from her first two marriages.
The break-up also puts an end to dream twins that Okotie expected her to deliver someday.
On 7 August, 2008, Okotie married Stephanie Henshaw, the woman he described as the most beautiful on earth, in a glamorous wedding attended by a horde of journalists and celebrities.
The funky preacher and celebrity singer had directed wealthy members of his church to donate millions of naira in gifts and cash and they made it one of the biggest and most-talked about wedding that year.
There were 12 committees made up of members born in each month of the year. Members born in the month of June, Okotie’s birth month, contributed the most. The eloquent preacher was born on 16 June, 1958, in Delta State.
Aside this, Okotie had selected 120 members, 10 from each month to form the wedding train. Each of them wore aso ebi.
The celebrity pastor also invited two journalists from each media organisation in the country to give total coverage to his second marriage.
Okotie’s traditional wedding took place on 7 August, at 6 George Street, Ikoyi, Lagos, by 2 p.m. while the registry ceremony followed the next day, Friday, 8 August, at the Ikoyi registry, at 4 p.m, and the thanksgiving and benediction took place on Sunday, 10 August, at the Household of God Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.
The clergyman told his church members early that year that he would be getting married to Stephanie because of her beauty which he described as angelic.
The eloquent preacher had also said that Stephanie has been under his watch for five years and did not mind the number of children she had from her previous marriages.
Mid-2007, when Okotie made his choice public, his church almost broke up as some female celebrities who thought they were the favoured candidates for ‘the post‘ of Mrs. Okotie, received the shocker of their lives when he settled for Stephanie, the unassuming woman in his glamorous church.
Ladies like Sola Salako, church administrator for several years and Okotie’s close aide; Vien Tetsola, a former Miss Nigeria; Ure Okezie, daughter of former minister, Dr. Okezie, and others, were rumoured to have left the church because of the announcement.
Celebrities such as Mofe Damijo and many others were also said to have simply quit Okotie‘s church then, while some have reluctantly returned.
Okotie’s marriage to Stephanie was his second attempt at matrimonial life. He was first married to Tyna his long time friend, but the marriage packed up after 17 years without any child.
Okotie loved his first wife so much that there was hardly a sermon in which he did not mention Tyna.
Long after they separated, he still spoke about her with deep emotions as if they were still married.
So much did Okotie talk about Tyna that some of his admirers in the church became jealous. But when he announced that he was set to marry Stephanie, he hardly mentioned the name of his first wife publicly.
Stephanie then became his centre of attraction.
On one occasion, Okotie invited Stephanie to the altar for a formal introduction.
After dancing around her for some minutes to the delight of the congregation, Okotie looked at Stephanie as she was going back to her seat, looked at the church and looked at Stephanie again and said in Igbo language, “Lekwa nwanyi nka marama” meaning “Look at her, isn`t she beautiful?”
Pastor Chris Okotie, founder of Household of God Church, Oregun, Lagos, is another firebrand preacher that often sends his audience into ecstasy.
He is also known for televangelism, and for preaching the end times which he titles The Apocalypsus.
In his messages, Okotie always reveals his knowledge of the book of Revelations beyond the ordinary and in a very complicated language which has prompted many to go to church with one or two dictionaries!

CHRISTIANS are Bombing the Churches in the North - El-Rufai.
Former FCT Minister and the Indicted former BPE Boss, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has blamed Christians for the series of Boko Haram bomb attacks in Northern Nigeria. The CPC chief in his recent tweeter updates, unapologetically unleashed accusations on Christians alleging that they are responsible for the Bomb attacks on in the North.

The controversial politician said that an SSS official was caught in Gombe attempting to bomb a church, he also cited that a Christian John (Odia) was behind church bombings in Zaria, Kaduna state.

These allegations of Christian attacked in Both Gome and Zaria has been debunked by the police as false and baseless, but a new ploy by the terrorist group to cause more dissatisfaction among Nigeria.
The JTF have indicated that the Terror group members are of late using Christian names or claiming to come from villages in the south to create a dubious impression that they act is nationally accepted.

Malam El- Rufai posted similar claim on his facebook profile claiming that Boko Haram is a Southern Christian plot to destroy the Hausa Fulani and Islam.

Boko Haram Plans To Poison Suya To Kill Christians - CAN

Boko Haram Plans To Poison Suya To Kill Christians - CAN

THE Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, South East zone, yesterday alleged that the Northern Islamist sect, Boko Haram and its sponsors had concluded plans to declare a Jihad against the Southern part of the country with the deployment of over 6,000 fundamentalists to the South to prosecute the war.

The association also claimed that part of the plot for the mass killing of Christians in the South was the alleged importation of a poisonous powder which Hausa suya sellers would use to poison the meat they sell as part of the Jihad, warning the people of the South to be careful about eating suya henceforth.
Chairman of CAN in the zone and Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, who raised the alarm at a briefing after the meeting of the association at All Saint’s Cathedral, Enugu, condemned the Sunday bombings of churches which claimed over 40 lives, saying it had on good authority that it had declared war on Christians as part of the agenda to Islamize Nigeria.
He said: “We have information and documents to show that this is a Jihad being sponsored and we have our documents to show where they have dispatched 2,000 people to prepare for Jihad to South East, 2,500 to South-South and about 2,000 to South West.
The names of those who are sponsoring this are in our hand now. So, it is a form of Jihad to make sure that Nigeria is frustrated and islamized and we are saying we are going to resist it, we are prepared to resist and they will not succeed. We have our information because there is already a Boko Haramist that was converted and has leaked most of these secrets to us and we have our document and information. So at the appropriate time we shall strike and we are waiting for them.”
“We are warning our people to be careful of suya because we have now heard that they will start poisoning people through suya. They know the suya they give themselves in the North and suya they give to the people in the South. So people should be careful of suya.
That is part of the information available to us now. There is a powder that is now being imported which they will spread on suya and after two weeks it will start eating your liver and other organs. We have gotten that information also.
The press should let the people know because when people start dying because of eating of suya don’t say I did not say as Bishop Chukwuma. I am telling you this because we have our information. As Sultan of Sokoto told our youths that he has a way of collecting information, Bishop Chukwuma also has a way of collecting information from the Muslims.
Let the Sultan hear that because he told our youths the other day that everything that is happening, he has a way of obtaining information, I too have a way of collecting my information and we are ready to match force with force right now.”
Expressing disappointment and dismay in the security agencies, Bishop Chukwuma lamented that it was disturbing that they could not put in place measure to forestall the bombing of churches which had reoccurred every Sunday.
“Are Christians no longer free to worship God on Sundays? What are the security operatives doing on Sundays when they know that Sundays have become a target to bomb Christians? What is the Inspector General of Police doing? Is changing of uniform the reformation that we want or action to make what is happening in the North to be stampeded and stopped. Again, what are the members of the House of Representatives and Senate doing to promulgate law that will sanction those perpetrating this evil?
“We call on the Federal Government to step up a serious security strategy that will protect lives and property of Christians in the north to avoid a volatile action from Christians in the South. We also want to put an alert that Christians in the South are ready to face them squarely because we heard that they have infiltrated this place, especially Enugu. We are prepared for war- physically and spiritually against any form of attack on the church. Time has come for reprisal because nobody can stop us from worshiping our God”, the South East CAN leader said.
He expressed regret that in spite of the huge budgetary allocation on security, the bombings have continued, stressing ‘where is the high budgetary allocation on security, where are they spending the money? It means that corruption has become part of it.”
Bishop Chukwuma, however, declared that Christians were fully prepared for war “physically and spiritually” to defend themselves against any attack on churches and worshipers anywhere, declaring that “nobody will stop us because the time has come for reprisal.”

Italian Man Accused Of $111,000 Fraud Commits Suicide In EFCC Custody

Italian Man Accused Of $111,000 Fraud Commits Suicide In EFCC Custody
By Wilson Uwujaren-EFCC Media & Publicity Unit
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC regrets to announce the passing of 52 years old Italian, Mr. Mauro Zanin, a suspected fraudster two days before he was scheduled to appear in court.

He was found motionless in the bathroom of the Commission’s detention facility in Abuja at about 4.50 am on June 19, 2012. He had apparently committed suicide using his bedsheet. All effort by the duty officers and a team of EFCC medical personnel led by Dr. Gideon Osi of the Commission’s Medical Unit to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation proved futile. He was subsequently certified dead at about 5.45 am.Though all clues point to suicide, the incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Station, Maitama for investigation. The deceased was arrested by Officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service following a complaint by one Ahamefula Chibuzor Ewuzie that he fraudulently obtained the sum of $111,000 from Gladwaters Nigeria Limited, and transferred to the Commission on 30th May, 2012 for further investigation.

The Commission had filed a five count charge against him in court and got a Wednesday, June 20, 2012 as hearing date. He was served the court papers to prepare his defence yesterday. His arrest was officially communicated to the Italian Embassy on 31st May, 2012. The same day, the suspect was granted provisional bail, but he could not get a surety to take him on bail. While in detention, Mr. Zanin was visited on May 30, 2012, by Mr. Nicola Bazzani, First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy; and everyday by his lawyer, Mr.Ugochukwu Onyejiuto. “ It is important to say that I took this matter pro bono, with the hope that he will pay my fees when he is free. I was spending my money feeding him… to my amazement; he refused to let his family know what was going on. He has a 30 year-old son who is a lawyer in Italy but he was always telling them all was well”, Onyejiuto said.

Zanin took his own life a day to his scheduled arraignment. He was supposed to be arraigned before the Federal High Court (5) in Abuja on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Dr. Mma Wokocha, the complainant expressed shock at the news of the death of the suspect, wondering how she would recover the huge sum of money obtained from her by the deceased. However, she absolved the Commission of any blame in the death of the suspect. ”Nobody should blame the EFCC. The Commission has done what it has to do, you cannot blame the EFCC...there was total human care for this guy,” she said.

Facts of the Case
The deceased, a confirmed fraudster, allegedly obtained the money from Wokocha under the guise of selling used Dredger Italgraghe SGT 200 to them, to execute some dredging contract in the Niger Delta. The suspect sent them a Bill of Laden but their long wait for the ship, MSC Trinidad to berth was futile. Unknown to the complainant the Bill of Laden was forged as the ship indicated had ceased to exist long before they ever met the deceased three years ago.The remains of the suspect have been deposited at the mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

Bobby Brown Ties the Knot

Bobby Brown Ties the Knot

He’s always up to something crazy, and yesterday (June 18) Bobby Brown got married to fiancee Alicia Etheredge.
The “My Prerogative” singer and his lovely bride got hitched less than 24 hours after Bobby’s gig with New Edition in Honolulu, Hawaii, with plenty of family and friends around them.
Bobby’s children Landon, La’Princia, and Bobby Jr. all showed up for the special occasion, though his daughter Bobbi Kristina (with the late Whitney Houston) didn’t make it out, as they’re said to have a strained relationship.
Additionally, Bobby and Alicia’s son Cassius served as the ring bearer and wore Adidas shoes that matched the groom’s kicks.
Brown popped the question to Ms. Etheredge back in 2010 and credits her for helping him find his feet again. "I got my passion back for music and for loving myself because of her,” he told press.

Boko Haram ‘Likely’ to attack Lagos & Ibadan in next few weeks, Pan Yoruba group warns

Boko Haram ‘Likely’ to attack Lagos & Ibadan in next few weeks, Pan Yoruba group warns
A new pan-Yoruba group, Apapo Oodua Koya, (AOKOYA) said today that it has “trusted” information that Boko Haram, the dreaded extremist Islamic group, is likely to attack Lagos and Ibadan in the next few days or in the month of July.“Boko Haram thinks the best way to get attention is through sustained attacks, but the surest way to dominate national discuss and stir critical opinions is to take the battle to the country’s economic hub, which is Lagos and Ibadan,” the group said in a statement in Ibadan signed by its Secretary for Internal Affairs, Alhaji Mufatau Adedoyin.

“That is the new thinking of the Boko Haram leadership.”
AOKOYA expressed regret that the political leadership of the South West has no concrete plans to curtail the “almost inevitable” suicide bomb attacks that the Islamic group may unleash on the largely urbanized Yoruba region. It said that the frequent activities of Boko Haram in Kogi State, plus last weekend’s bomb attacks on Kaduna city are clear indications that cities in South West Nigeria must be prepared for their own dose of suicide attacks from Islamic fundamentalists pushing for sectarian leadership of the country. The group described the bombing of ECWA church in Kaduna as a calculated attack on the Yoruba people, as they are the most notable worshipers in ECWA churches across the country.
Said the statement: “We have intelligence information that Boko Haram will attack the largely vulnerable Yoruba cities on or before the month of July this year. We fear the carnage that will result from violent attacks on Yoruba cities. It is naïve to assume that Boko Haram will spare Lagos, Ibadan, Warri or any of the Yoruba cities. At present, the Yoruba political leadership relies on the Nigerian Police and the State Security Service, (SSS). These groups are too polarized, corrupt, inept, politicized, ill-motivated and hunted by low morale to be able to offer any hope for the Yoruba people.”

AOKOYA, which describes itself as a Yoruba self-determination group, noted that as Nigeria inches towards 100 years of the forceful amalgamation of the country by imperial lords, “the dissolution of the country should be a natural expectation given the tear, sorrow and blood” that has been Nigeria’s story since 1914.
“There cannot be any redeemer for a nation that is destined and designed to collapse,” it said. “We urge the Yoruba people to rise up and work hard to ensure minimum casualty in our search for the inevitable Oduduwa Republic. We seek alliance with the Middle-Belt, Igbos and the South-South, for the greater future of a traumatized population that have been pushed into the cesspool of underdevelopment, hunger and starvation in the hands of a hateful social and political system that offers nothing but destruction and the spilling of human blood.”

Calling for the assistance of the international community to Nigeria “to prevent the carnage that may arise from the inevitable break-up of the country,” AOKOYA said the bombings will not abate simply because the social and political contradictions of a diverse, plural society being forced to live under one law and value has reached its breaking point.“The issue is no longer whether the country will break-up, the real issue now is when and how,” the statement said. “The people face the grim reality of either a violent break-up or ceaseless confrontation with blood and anguish in the hands of extremist forces.” via SR
